I have to admit, I got excited and missed this morning. I had been hunting this bird for 4 mornings and he finally made a mistake, and so did I!!!!
My question is, will this bird gobble in the same area and come to calling again? He flew only a few 100 yards and landed…

Yep. I missed a bird twice exactly one week ago. I was back in there today and he was hammering. Just tweak your setup and kill him!

“Was that a gobble?”:gobble:

The only way he won’t return, is if you kill him the first time..

That is a big ten-four – You can even kill him later on that same day.  But not from the same set up.   :z-guntootsmiley:

I had a buddy miss a bird one morning, I went back in two days later to the same spot and killed one.  When I cleaned it it had a few pellets just into the breast meat that didn’t penetrate that were not from the shells I was shooting.  They were just starting to change colors a little.  I assume it was the bird he missed just 40 yards from where I killed him.

Setup on a different place on the property and call…
Give him something different to think about..
You dont have to move far but a little different location might get him to come in…

Just a week ago I called one up and missed him then went back the next morning and he was in the same tree as the day before hammering away.

My cousin called up 4 gobblers for his girlfriend one time and she missed one of them. He went back two days later and called the same 4 back up and killed one of them. In a few days he should be callable again.

I often have 2 gobblers come in and one gets shot and the other bird hauls tail and a few minutes after watching his buddy get drilled he comes on back to get a face full Hevi his self. That boom means nothing to a turkey,If it is a CLEAN miss, just sit tight for a bit with some soft calling before you get up and confirm your miss. The turkey probably didnt go far after you shot and is still as horny as he was before the kaboom.

Or, a gobbler is coming to the hunter’s calling and spots the hunter moving. That movement spooks the turkey. The only feeling that I know of that’s worse is if you shoot at a gobbler and miss him.

If you have questions that need to be answered about the topic will a turkey come back after being shot at, then this section may help you solve it.

Will turkey come back after missed shot?

If you shoot and miss a turkey, and if that gobbler starts running or flying away, sit still until you know for certain he’s all the way out of sight. Then, sit still for another 30 minutes or an hour to see if that turkey will start gobbling again. The turkey doesn’t know what’s happened when that gun has gone off

Where do turkeys go after being shot?

A turkey that’s been shot and wounded will often find a deadfall to hide under. Look in these spots of heavy cover ? and even in thick swamps ? in line with the path the departing bird took after you pulled the trigger or released the arrow

How long can a turkey sit after shooting?

In summary, you generally want to at least gut the turkey immediately after the kill. If you want to wait to finish cleaning the turkey that is fine but removing the guts greatly decreases the chances of the meat spoiling. Hang the turkey anywhere from 1-3 days in a cool, dry environment if you want to age the meat

Will bird shot work on turkey?

The good news? There’s no law against hunting gobblers with bird shot geared toward other species. But before you start substituting whatever’s laying in the bottom of your game bag for a dedicated turkey load, take a closer look at which shotshells can effectively pinch hit for

Is it common to miss a turkey?

It can also be a heartbreaker when hunters, caught up in the moment, flub the shot. For those one-shot, one-bird hunters, it may be difficult to wrap their heads around the notion that a turkey could be missed when leveling a shotgun on a gobbler at less than 30 yards. Yet, it happens?often.

Why do I keep missing turkey?

Here are the Most Common Reasons Why You’ll Miss a Turkey:

You take your head off the gun as you’re shooting. You shoot too quickly, without carefully aiming. Your super-tight turkey choke means that you’ve got a fist-sized pattern at close range that makes missing a moving bird easy.

How far will a wounded turkey Run?

Typically, a bird that is fatally injured by a shotgun won’t travel far. Most turkeys are recovered within about a 200-yard radius. The best place to start your search is right where you shot the bird.

Will a wounded turkey fly?

Most wounded turkeys can’t fly into trees to roost, so they just walk off into the woods and bed down.

How far is too far to shoot a turkey?

My generic answer: 20-35 yards. The payload stays baseball tight with shots taken at under 20 steps, and misses are more likely, especially with that serpentine turkey head juking around. Then again, the swarm of pellets begins to open up when shot from farther out, especially beyond 40 yards. That’s no good either.

What kills turkeys at night?

eagles, Hawks, and owls ? Hawks and eagles are some of the few daytime predators of turkeys; owls hunt at night.

Can turkeys be scared to death?

Turkeys can literally be scared to death. In the 1950s, The Air Force was running test flights that broke the sound barrier while nearby turkeys dropped dead suffering from heart attacks.

What sound scares turkeys Away?

It’s easy to scare turkeys away by making noises (try waving your arms and yelling or blowing a whistle), popping open an umbrella, throwing tennis balls, or dousing the turkey with water from a hose or squirt gun. A leashed dog may also be effective in scaring a turkey away.

What color should you avoid turkey hunting?

Never wear red, white, blue or black clothing while turkey hunting. Red is the color most hunters look for when distinguishing a gobbler’s head from a hen’s blue-colored head, but at times it may appear white or blue. Male turkey feathers covering most of the body are black in appearance.

Should you move around while turkey hunting?

The hunter can see what’s in front of him. The gobbler can see everything around him, and that’s the reason you have to keep your movement to a minimum and wear camouflage.

Do you have to worry about scent when turkey hunting?

Turkeys have a very poor sense of smell, so you don’t have to worry about scent-masking clothing or playing the wind while turkey hunting. The turkey’s other senses ? namely its razor-sharp eyesight and amazing hearing ? more than make up for its olfactory inadequacies.

How important is camo for turkey hunting?

Camouflage isn’t necessary for turkey hunting. You can hunt and kill turkeys with a green plaid shirt, tan pants or jeans, a mask, and gloves. However, turkeys are extremely wary, so having a camo pattern that hides you exceptionally well only increases your chances of not getting busted.
