we are visiting in July and well likely be renting in St Thomas and taking ferry over to St John we would like to gather up groceries for our Villa before getting to St John and suggestions of places to get Bulk groceries ?

CostULess is our version of Costco, and it is centrally located. They have a website so you can see some of what is available. Don’t expect bargains, though, because prices on most items will be higher than Stateside.

Plaza Extra also has quite a few items in bulk, but they also have more items in smaller sizes. Plaza is closer to the East End, but still not that far from CostULess. They also have a website.

The closest thing to a “warehouse store” is “Price-Smart’. It is a small chain of “membership” stores, as I recall most of their stores are in South America. A year’s membership (as I recall) currently is fifteen dollars. It”s near the Fort Mylner shopping center and a bit hard to find because the signage is poor.

IMO, although it is very weak as far as food goes, it is good for things like paper goods and toiletries. Generally, the selection is sparse. If you want variety, Cost-U-Less, and many other places are far better.

Because Pricesmart requires membership, it usually isn’t mentioned for vacationers. IMO it has a good selection of prepackaged, refrigerated food products and usually good produce. It may be worth a membership if you’re staying for season, but you’re not missing anything if you’re here for a week.

But the OP inquired about a “Costco, Walmart, Bj’s like store”. Two of the three require “membership”, and the “membership” is but a fraction of the cost of membership of Costo, and BJ’s. As the OP is also interested in “Bulk Groceries” it sounds like they expect to use a considerable quantity.

As a local, never found PriceSmart to be a real cost-saver compared to CostULess but it’s certainly an option. CUL is unquestionably a warehouse store but one can easily shop there for one or 101 given their packaging options. Beer and water are by the case only, most tinned goods come in 6-packs and their condiments are usually large-sized but their meats and produce are usually excellent, frozen selection large and if I need something in a smaller package than available there I finish up further up the road at Plaza Extra in Tutu Park Mall.

First, I don’t think that Reuters is accepted as one of the better sources for definitions, Webster’s and OED, are among the most universally accepted

Second, the Reuters article only gives a definition “by example” which is the weakest form of definition.

Third,, Price-Smart is also in the article.

Fourth, In Sam Walton’ autobiography it is told how he first reacted when he learned of BJ’s. He was astounded that people PAID to shop in the store, and thought that it was a fantastic idea.

Finally, I don’t see why we are even seeking a definition of a “warehouse”. We are looking for a store that meets the OPs requirements. And that seems to be a desire to purchase “bulk groceries”.
