e’s Panko Breaded Tilapia
The pros: Trader Joe’s Panko Breaded Tilapia are reasonably priced, heat up well, make for a solidly portioned fish meal and are crisp.
The cons: When prepared in the oven this product does leak some oil so be prepared to put something under this.
The verdict: I enjoy the frozen foods section of Trader Joe’s. My household is only two people. On top of that we don’t have work schedules that allow us to eat together most days in the week. Cooking for one is a pain. Plus, I’m the only one in the household who enjoys fish. For me, these are a perfect solution to the occasional fried fish cravings that I get.
For $5.99, I picked up this package of Trader Joe’s Panko Breaded Tilapia Fillets. Inside the box are four individually wrapped precooked fillets. These fillets shouldn’t be microwaved. In order to guarantee that they are crisp, these are to be heated in the oven or toaster oven only. Be sure to use parchment or something under this as a good amount of oil will escape the fillet. In about 20 minutes they are ready. The panko makes a very crisp outside to a not fishy type of fish. The fish is since and firm and flakes nicely when cut up.
Since the fish is so mild, this is a solid choice with tartar sauce, salsa, or any other creative topping that you can think of that goes well with fish. This would also make a fish sandwich which would taste far better than anything McDonalds could make, at a fraction of the cost. Just be aware that if you squeeze some lemon on this, the extra liquid will be absorbed quickly.
Overall, I enjoyed this. This makes a meal without any of the hassle of prep, clean up, or waste. Well done and worth a try. As for me, I’d buy another box and keep these fillets in the freezer to have on hand.

Frequently Asked Questions About trader joe’s breaded tilapia
If you have questions that need to be answered about the topic trader joe’s breaded tilapia, then this section may help you solve it.
How do you make Trader Joe’s breaded tilapia?
These fillets shouldn’t be microwaved. In order to guarantee that they are crisp, these are to be heated in the oven or toaster oven only. Be sure to use parchment or something under this as a good amount of oil will escape the fillet. In about 20 minutes they are ready
Is Trader Joe’s tilapia good?
The pros: Trader Joe’s Tilapia is a good choice in the frozen section if you are looking for a firm frozen fish on a budget. The cons: Some Tilapia packages are sealed far better than others, so please make sure yours is as vacuum sealed as possible to ensure freshness
How do you thaw frozen Trader Joe’s tilapia?
One of the best ways to thaw frozen tilapia is by leaving it in the fridge until it’s completely thawed. However, if you’re crunched for time, you can remove it from its package, place it on a plate, and place it under cool running water until thawed.
How long is Trader Joe’s frozen tilapia good for?
Frozen tilapia that has been kept constantly frozen at 0°F will keep safe indefinitely, as long as it has been stored properly and the package is not damaged.
Is breaded tilapia good for you?
Tilapia is high in vitamin B12, which helps your body make DNA, maintain its nervous system, and produce red blood cells. It’s also low in fat, saturated fat, omega-3 fatty acids, calories, carbohydrates, and sodium making it a healthy addition to any meal.
Is tilapia healthier than salmon?
With fewer calories than salmon or other popular fish, Tilapia is the perfect addition to a healthy, balanced diet. Other than being rich in protein, it’s also high in potassium, contains iron and is naturally gluten-free. Tilapia is a lean source of protein that packs a ton of nutrients into one low-carb serving.
Is tilapia healthier than meat?
?Tilapia and catfish are examples of lower-fat fish that have fewer omega-3s? than oily fish, but ?still provide more of these heart-healthy nutrients than hamburger, steak, chicken, pork or turkey,? they wrote.
Why You Should Never thaw frozen fish in its vacuum sealed packaging?
When vacuum-packaged fish is not properly stored and thawed, it has the potential to create a deadly toxin. Fish is a known source of the bacteria Clostridium botulinum type E. This bacteria is a spore former that can grow at temperatures above 38ºF and without oxygen ? such as a vacuum package.
Should you wash frozen tilapia before cooking?
Because these bacteria can make you sick, the U.S.Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service recommends that you do not rinse off tilapia and other meats before cooking.
Is 2 year old frozen fish still good?
Any frozen fish or shellfish will be safe indefinitely; however, the flavor and texture will lessen after lengthy storage. For best quality, freeze (0 °F / -17.8 °C or less) cooked fish for up to 3 months. Frozen raw fish is best used within 3 to 8 months; shellfish, 3 to 12 months.
Why should you not freeze previously frozen fish?
That’s because with either method, the fish fillets could have at least temporarily warmed up to a temperature higher than 40°F. At that point, harmful bacteria can begin to multiply and only further cooking will destroy it; simply refreezing the fish fillets won’t do the trick.
How do you defrost vacuum sealed tilapia?
There is an easy solution. Either take the fish out of the package or simply cut a hole in the vacuum package to allow air inside before putting the fish into the refrigerator to thaw. This is no longer an anaerobic environment. So no longer risky.
How long does vacuum sealed tilapia last in the fridge?
After tilapia is purchased, it may be refrigerated for 1 to 2 days – the “sell-by” date on the package may expire during that storage period, but the tilapia will remain safe to use after the sell by date if it has been properly stored.
What fish should you not freeze?
Dense and firm-fleshed fish (like rockfish, cobia, or mahi) hold up well frozen. Softer fleshed fish, particularly fatty and oily ones (like bluefish or spanish mackerel) do not freeze well, and should be eaten fresh. Salmon and tuna have high amounts of fat, so they freeze okay, but they are much better fresh.
