Air Fryer Potato Skins are an easy snack food or appetizer. This recipe shows you how to have perfectly cut potato halves, filled with bacon, cheddar cheese, green onions, and topped with sour cream.

I love potato skins, but most of the time, by the time they get served, the skins are soggy and greasy. So making these in the air fryer impressed me almost as much as the Air Fryer Chocolate Cheesecake I made.

What you need to make potato skins in the air fryer

I use a Cosori 5.8 quart air fryer most of the time, which is what I used to make these skins. Any air fryer will work, just watch your cooking time the first time you make this recipe, so you don’t overcook the cheese.

Besides an air fryer, you only need a few things to make this recipe.

  • baked potatoes
  • cheddar cheese
  • crumbled bacon
  • optional toppings like sour cream, chives, or green onions.

Making these potato skins in the air fryer begins with baked potatoes. I actually followed the directions from the air fryer loaded baked potatoes post, to cook the potatoes first.

How to make air fryer potato skins

Making these potato skins takes no time at all. Once you have the potatoes cooked, slice each potato in half. Then use a spoon or scoop and remove some of the inside of the potato, leaving about ¼ inch around the skins.

Fill the potato skins with cheese and then sprinkle bacon crumbles on top. Then place the skins into the air fryer basket. Cook them using the air fry option at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 3-5 minutes, until the cheese melts.

That is all you have to do to have amazing, crispy potato skins cooked in the air fryer. Now that they are done cooking, and the cheese has melted, you can sprinkle a little bit more cheese or leave as it is.
