eam Brussels Sprouts Without a Steamer

I don’t think that side dishes are fun to blog about because, quite frankly, they tend to be boring and I have nothing to really talk about. Like “Here’s a recipe. Bye.” However, I find that side dishes are the recipes that I search for the most and if you’re like me then you want to see those here (even if they’re not as exciting as cookies).

So without further ado, if you’re looking for a fantastic veggie side dish recipe, here you go. Simple and to the point today. 🙂 My husband and I make these “steamed” Brussels spouts often and we hope that you enjoy them too.

How to Steam Brussels Sprouts without a Steamer
(Makes about 2 to 4 servings)

Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces of fresh Brussels sprouts
  • water
  • salt, to taste
  • (optional, but  highly recommended) sprinkling of dried or fresh dill, to taste

Directions:

  1. Cut the Brussels sprouts in half.  If the ends look dodgy then cut a tiny bit off of each of the ends.
  2. Rinse the Brussels sprouts with water and make sure they are clean.
  3. Place the Brussels sprouts in a pot and add water.  The amount of water will differ depending on how big your Brussels sprouts are.  Your goal is to add water until the Brussels sprouts are about half covered in water.
  4. Cover the pot, place it on the stove on High heat, and bring it to a boil.  Cook it until they are fork tender.  Again, the timing will differ depending on the size of your Brussels sprouts.  Keep a close eye on it because it does not take long to cook.  These took about 8 minutes to cook.
  5. Drain the Brussels sprouts.
  6. Place the Brussels sprouts in a bowl and sprinkle salt on top, to taste.
  7. (Optional) Sprinkle dried or fresh dill on top, to taste.

Note:  You can use this recipe for as much or as little Brussels sprouts as you want.  The ingredients and time are what I did for this batch of Brussels sprouts.
