range be sticking out this much?

This is your dilemma as I understand it. Andy you feel that the cabinets do not come
forward enough to cover the side wall of your stove making it look awkward to
you. Should you have the cabinets
adjusted to correct this difference prior to making the counter tops? The cabinets were CUSTOM MADE for your kitchen
and therefore could have been made to any depth without additional cost. As a fellow detailed orientated person, Andy,
I agree with you when something does not feel right in your gut, it is always
best to investigate—and even more so when you are having something custom made. But in doing so, it is always best to consult
the source.

While it is true we can all comment on what we feel about
the look, correct or not, and show countless examples of how others have
installed “similar” stoves in this same manner—the truth is they are not facts,
but opinions. The only thing that is
relevant in this whole discuss is what does the mfg., specifically “Capital
Stove,” say is required for installation of the range they engineered. They are the only ones who really know the
absolute answer.

Capital Cooking Care and Use and Installation Guide

Therefore, if you go to page 38 of their Care and Use, and
Installation Guide (link above), you can see their specifications of depth installation. In what I have read I do not find any warning
as to the depth of the cabinet in relation to the side of the stove. Nor do I see any clear language regarding
cabinet depth. Their drawing gives the
impression that it is okay to have the cabinet come out as far as the side wall
of the stove but not the door.

In light of this, I would call Capital and ask their Customer
Service Technical Staff to confirm this is true and go from there. You can also offer to email them your photos.

Frequently Asked Questions About how far should range stick out from counter

If you have questions that need to be answered about the topic how far should range stick out from counter, then this section may help you solve it.

Should the range and the countertop be level?

a cooking surface that is lower than the height of the top of the counter. Ideally, the top of your stove should be level with the top of the counter or slightly higher if necessary to prevent heat from the cooktop slowly destroying the counter.

How much of a countertop protrudes past the stove?

A half-inch

Do stoves protrude more than cabinets do?

However, the oven door typically sticks out a couple of inches to protect the surrounding cabinetry from damage. Depending on the manufacturer, some ovens stick out further than others. Your slide-in range, not including the door, should be flush with the base cabinets.

How much space must be cleared for a range?

The following are the standard minimum clearances for ranges: 30 inches between the cooktop and a cabinet, 0 inches for sides below the cooktop, and 1 12 inches to the nearest adjacent sidewall above the cooktop on both sides.

How should a gap between a range and countertop be filled?

If there is a height difference between your stovetop and the counter, use a silicone material because it is more flexible and will fit the form better. Stainless steel gap covers can be used to seamlessly match a metal stove-top.

Quartz can it pass behind a range?

You can use any color quartz slab for a backsplash as long as you keep it as clean and dry as you can, but if your backsplash is going behind a stove and you do a lot of cooking, granite is probably the better option.

How close to the counter can the stove be?

Remember to leave at least 15 to 18 inches of counter space on one side of the oven, 12 to 18 inches on one side and 15 to 24 inches on the other of the stove or stovetop, and 18 to 30 inches of counter space on one side of the sink and 24 to 36 inches on the other.

How far from cabinets should a range hood protrude?

Hood ranges for electric cooktops should be placed somewhat closer, at a distance of about 20 to 30 inches, as opposed to the 24 to 36 inches recommended for gas cooktops.

How much room ought to be left around a stove?

The application of this rule in a wall oven space is shown below. Guidelines recommend 15? of space on either one or both sides of an oven, or if the oven is in a tall cabinet and this is not possible, to have 15? of landing space no more than 48? in front of the oven as long as it does not open into the main walkway.

How far from a wall must a range be?

Gas ranges require a 6″ side wall clearance above the counter height for proper distance from combustible surfaces. Select models may only require a 3″ left side wall clearance based upon the burner configuration.

What kind of space is required for a 30 inch stove?

A standard cutout width is typically 30 inches wide to accommodate a 30-inch range that is actually 29-7/8 inches wide; however, if the measurements are not the same, choose the smaller dimension.

Can the range be flush against the wall?

There is a lot of heat coming from the cooktop, and the gas flames or heat from the electric coils can create a serious threat if they are too close to a sidewall, so it is important to leave a foot of space, regardless of the type of stove or range you have.

How far should the range be from the wall?

A free-standing range requires approximately a 1 inch space between it and any cabinets or the back wall. The standard range size for this type of appliance is typically 25 inches to 27 inches deep.

How much room is needed for a stove?

The National Fire Protection Agency recommends a standard distance of 36 inches between the back of the stove and any combustible materials, including woodwork, uncovered walls, furniture, and even firewood.

A range may be placed against a side wall.

Almost all require some space to the side of the unit. Most are around 5″, but I’ve seen as little as 2″ and as much as 10″. I would not advise against placing the stove right up against the wall. You are creating a fire hazard (the current installation sounds like a sub-standard set-up that you should repeat).

How far from a wall does a stove need to be?

Without wall protection, the typical radiant-type stove or heater must be set back at least 36 inches from the wall because wood frame walls covered in dry wall are combustible.
